Conventions in mystery thriller
During our research on key conventions vital for a mystery thriller we found that death and killing are key themes throughout all thrillers including a mystery thriller that we will attempt to create. Within mystery thrillers there are tilt shots or otherwise disorientating angles and shots which create discomfort for audience. Also as for the camera shots, there are a lot of close up and extreme close up shots of the protagonist in films, these shots help exaggerate facial expressions to show how the actors are feeling. As for the narrative, another convention for a thriller is to create suspense and excitement for the audience, this helps the audience engage with the film and make them feel as if they're part of the film. We also found that the antagonist is revealed at the end to the protagonists but can usually be seen throughout as the antagonists identity could be apparent to the audience. However some directors withhold this information to create suspense and mystery during the thriller. Arguably, one of the most common conventions in a mystery thriller would be blood and violence, in films there is blood used when the antagonist kills someone in the film, as for the violence we never really see the death however in thrillers there is usually violence with the protagonist.
From this task I have learnt all the conventions within a mystery thriller film and know what we will need to include within our film for it to be a successful thriller film.
